When we sought out Ender, my son was in a math crisis. He literally was flunking trig and had hidden his grades from us for months. It was only with huge reluctance that my 10th grader agreed to see Ender "a few times." Ender told me, "You'll know if I'm helping in just a couple of sessions," and he was right. Within a quarter, our son went from an F to an A (which the teacher kindly averaged to a B.) At one low point my son told me, "You just don't get it--I just can't get an A in math." But Ender game him the confidence that he needed--the belief that he could master this hard subject. Junior year, our teenager ASKED to see Ender. He got A's in Pre-Calc. We wouldn't think of tackling AP Statistics without Ender's support. It's one of the best and most respectful relationships with an adult that my son has ever had. Before meeting Ender, I had completely given up on math after a few attempts with different tutors. Meeting Ender was such a blessing. He knew how to explain the subject in even the most simple way and was completely willing and ready to explain it 3 or 4 times if he had to. His 100% friendly personality always made me feel comfortable admitting that I didn't understand something or asking what I thought might be a "stupid" question. Before working with Ender I never expected to get a grade I would be happy with on my math tests or in class. Now and ever since however, I am confident in my math skills and expect only the best grades. His intelligence shows from his ability to switch from topic to topic, level to level in seconds. Ender Markal has a gentle, yet extremely effective approach. My daughter was really struggling with Algebra and was not at all keen on working with a tutor. Ender at SFTutors was my math tutor for the math portion of the SAT reasoning test this year. As opposed to other SAT preparation programs which just repeated give you timed tests to practice with, Ender broke down the math section into pieces according to my personal needs in a 7 week process.
Given that everyone has different academic strengths and weaknesses, a generic SAT class is sometimes not helpful in aiding what certain students need help with. However, at SFtutors, I was in a class with 6 students which made it easy to focus on each one of us individually. The class provided us with a binder full of useful SAT tips, vocabulary words, practice exams, and worksheets from various SAT prep books. On top of this, both tutors, Lauren and Ender, were very approachable and understanding. Each of them made sure that we understood what was going on in the class, and worked with us separately if we were confused.
Overall SFtutors was a great investment. Although the work they gave us was strenuous at times, the class was very effective in familiarizing me with the structure of the SAT. I would even say that I had a good time while I was there. I would recommend it to any student in search of a SAT class that isn't going to overload you with practice tests and will raise your score.
In the end, I ended up getting a 720 on the math portion, which is a great improvement. Thanks Ender!

SAT math questions are unique to SAT tests only. The types of questions found on those exams are not something anybody has ever seen before, and can be really tricky. I personally have always been very good at math, getting strait A's even in honors classes. Nonetheless, I find some of the problems on the SAT ridiculous and tricky. SF Tutors has studied these questions, and knows the solutions and methods to solving these strange problems. They put them in simpler terms, and makes solving them easy and fast. Likewise, their verbal teachers provide excellent strategies for every type of question you come across as well as reading and writing. Their employees are some of the nicest people I have ever met, and I had tremendous success with SF tutors, and HIGHLY recommend them.

We were so lucky to find Ender. He is extremely sharp and really knows how to get the kids to understand some difficult math. I used him for both my sons in prep for the SAT's. Math has never been one of my strong subjects, but Ender Markal has helped me reach a new level of confidence in the past year and a half that I have known him. Ender has tutored me through Precalculus and AP Calculus and I don't know what I would've done without him! I often feel lost and confused before going to Ender for help, but always come out of the session feeling reassured and much more confident in my math skills. I've never found a problem that Ender can't figure out and then explain to me in a simple way. Although I may not understand the explanation the first time around, he never stops trying to explain his methods until I understand and can repeat the process myself. Ender is extremely patient and cares about the well-being of his students, always following up on test results and homework assignments, not to mention a genius! In addition, he is very flexible with lesson times and always tries to accommodate his students' needs. My high school, junior son was testing in the 1850 range on a variety of mock and practice SAT tests. We decided to use a formal, group class to prepare him for taking the real SAT test. SFTutors came highly recommended. Ender, the program head arranged a class (at a time that did not conflict with school or sports) with three of my son’s friends and two other students. My son and his friends agreed that the course was the best they could possibly image such an effort to be; they loved both Ender (for math) and Lauren, the English tutor, the class was small, they got to take it at a convenient time, and the class hours and assignments, while vigorous, were all sensible, applicable, and effective. My son scored over 2000 on his combined SAT. We were very happy with SFTutors from start to finish.

Ender Markal is the best math tutor I have ever found. He truly makes the material understandable and is very specific in what he teaches. Ender helped me a lot with learning to solve math problems quickly in preparation for the SATs. He taught me in a small group (3 other students), where he started by giving us timed practice tests and then working with each of us at our own levels. STILL WORKS... I studied with Ender Markal when I was in high school approximately twelve years ago. Everything changed for me after I met him. He was not only a good teacher but also a good mentor, a good coach and an older brother. With Ender, I learned so much in a short time: not only the basics of math, but systematic study skills, time management, efficiency and the importance of feeling sure of oneself are a few from these. First of all, I got in the college of my dreams thanks to him. After four years in college, I graduated with a degree in accounting. I first went to SFTutors for math tutoring in preparation for the SAT 2s. I worked with Ender, the most clear and concise teacher I have ever met, for several sessions. I left him feeling confident and knowledgeable about not only math, but also the style and tricks for the SAT format specifically. I returned to Ender for preparation for the ACT. With Ender, I had the same calm and kind guidance (partnered with the occasional laugh) that left me feeling good about my math skills as well. If I were to sum up my findings, I would say SFTutors is a haven of knowledge for the stumbling, confused, or even nervous student. I took the GMAT several years ago and more or less gave up on the idea of business school because my low Math score prevented me from applying to the schools I knew I was capable of applying to. I have worked with Ender over the past eight months and his guidance provided me with the skills and the confidence to improve my score significantly. Ender adjusts his approach to each individual. He shows his students different methods for problem solving because he understands that everybody processes content differently. After a few sessions with Ender I could tell that my perspective and approach to each problem had changed. I came about Ender through a previous SAT Tutoring company because I was looking for help specifically in the math area. I met with Ender to practice and review numerous skills for the 2008 AP Calculus AB Exam as I didn't feel confident with the material covered in my high school Calculus Class. With his help I was able to pass the AP Calculus Exam. Ender has great communication skills and was able to explain the concepts to me in a way that I could understand. As he goes through lessons, he writes notes that pertain to the particular session and lets you keep them for future reference. Ender is a patient tutor and works at the pace that you're comfortable learning at so you understand how you arrived to an answer, not simply just getting the answer. He was also able to accommodate my schedule which included school, swimming, and other family matters. This was a problem with previous Tutors in general (SAT & Others). Overall this was a positive experience and one that I very pleased with. I Highly recommend Ender for any math related tutoring.

In school, math was my weakest subject; I did not even know how to do the simplest things. Ender has been my math tutor for the past 5 months. My daughter is currently a high school sophmore and has seen Ender for a year and a half now. The results of her tutoring sessions with Ender have been fantastic. Ender has a unique ability to communicate with adolescents. He somehow manages to translate math instruction into a language that can be understood, even by a student who struggles to comprehend traditional math instruction. I came home from my first day of calculus practically in tears. I thought I was going to have to drop the course. Then, I decided to call Ender, having previously worked with him to prepare for the SAT. Ender was so patient with me, making sure that I truly understood all of the concepts, pulling extra problems and clearer readings from other textbooks. I couldn’t be happier: I’ve taken the SAT for the last time! I took it twice, and each time I prepared with Ender. Each time my math scores went up significantly. I’m very satisfied with my math score now, and I can honestly say that working with Ender was great. He really helped me with the math concepts as well as the test-taking strategies that allowed me to do well on the SAT. Ender can explain concepts and personalize strategies in a way that the institutional prep classes can’t – I worked with one of them on the verbal and writing portions at the same time that I worked with Ender on math, but my verbal and writing scores didn’t increase nearly as much as my math scores. Working with Ender is the best and most effective way to go.

Ender Markal is, unquestionably, an incredible math tutor. I have had a few math tutors before, and I took an SAT prep course. But none of these tutors have helped me to truly understand the work I was assigned with. The SAT prep course from before barely prepared me for the math section. But Ender really taught me how to do the problems that were troubling me. He didn't just have me memorize problem types and guessing strategies. I highly recommend Ender to any one who is struggling with math problems or concepts. He prepared me so well for the SAT, and helped me to get a score that I feel confident will help me in my college application process.

I am a media professional, six years out of college and never been a fan of Algebra and Geometry. Where would I even start to prepare for the GMAT? I knew I needed to start from scratch, so I reached out to Ender from SFTutors. Ender was a wonderful tutor who worked with me one-on-one to refresh my math skills, reestablish and simplify the foundations of GMAT math covered in the exam. I tried the Kaplan course; unless you know the material, you are simply learning ways to take the test. After 10 years in finance, I realized it was time for a new challenge - to pursue my MBA. I immediately purchased a few texts to start my math review; this was a rude awakening. I have not attempted this type of math problems in over 10 years, my confidence was shaken, now what? I contacted Ender immediately and discussed with him my dilemma. He assured me that it was manageable and to begin with the fundamentals. I initially did not understand why he wanted to simplify every problem step by step to this degree? However as the GMAT progressively became more difficult and lengthy in questions, I understood why Ender brought me back to the fundamentals of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, etc.
Ender is incredibly patient and extremely bright. The academic degrees and the mathematics knowledge he obtains, Ender could easily work for a top tier corporation. However due to his passion for teaching, he has chosen otherwise; an uncommon trait to find. Aside from his knowledge base, he is gifted in identifying a student’s method to absorb material and “tweak” the process to meet their needs.
I truly found an enjoyment working through these math problems, and developed a confidence that was never instilled in me. I am thankful for Ender’s personalized attention, and I will continue to use him in the future for additional math issues related to my profession or courses I need additional help with. Ender Markal is a great tutor. He has helped me better understand all different kinds of advanced algebra problems. It was hard for me to understand a lot of the material that I was studying in class, but after seeing Ender, I was able to do math problems more quickly and accurately. No matter how heavy the homework assignment is for the night, our high school freshman actually looks forward to her weekly meetings with him. There is a calming confidence in her demeanor after each session. My wife and I are impressed at Ender’s professional manner. He is prompt and wastes no time in getting to it. Ender is an excellent tutor whom I would recommend to anyone. His patience, compassion, individualized attention and ability to find different analogies to explain math problems made my learning much more rewarding. In addition, his enthusiasm and the ease with which he explained some of the difficult math problems motivated me to learn more about math. After only 5 sessions, math seemed to make sense, I recognized the link between numbers and real life situations, and was able to see preparation for the GRE exam as fun and not an unpleasant task.

"Math has never been my strongest subject. During high school I took algebra and geometry, which I unfortunately failed. Besides not doing well, I simply hated high school. I would do anything just to not go. This being said, I found out for myself that I needed to find an alternative. After doing much research, I decided that it would be best for me to take my CHSPE test, in other words, to test out of high school and receive a certificate of proficiency. The test consists of two sections; math and English. I went into that test thinking I knew it all and studying really wasn't necessary. The results were this, I failed both sections. I had no choice but to take it again, but this time I needed help from someone that would prepare me for it. I researched many different tutors, and that¢s when I found Ender. At first I hesitated to even start tutoring considering I had two weeks until I had to take the test for my second time, but I gave it a shot anyways. I met with Ender for all of 5 to 6 sessions, and let me tell you, it paid off. I passed the CHSPE test for the second round and I owe it to him. "I had a dream to go to a top business school to get my MBA. My application was strong, but I was missing one critical element, a high score on the GMAT. "I am a woman in my 30s who decided to go back to college. I was painfully aware that Math was my weakest subject, so I decided that I needed a tutor, just a little one-on-one. "I can give nothing but a sterling recommendation to Ender Markal for the outstanding tutoring he gave my son Jonathan. My son attended a boarding school where the math instruction was weak. Academics were not the focus of this school. He did not take any AP courses in high school. I was so worried about what chance he would possibly have to get into any college, much less a UC.
When Jonathan came home on two separate home visits, we hired Ender through Compass, a tutoring company. Jonathan had FOUR 1 and 1/2 hour sessions of math tutoring with Ender, slightly less than most students have to prepare for the SAT, ACT as well as the SAT Subject tests. He had already taken both tests in the spring of his junior year and even one in the fall of senior year. His ACT score in math before any tutoring was a 25. After his 4th and final tutoring session with Ender, he took both tests with a final ACT score of 31 in Math, a final SAT score of 680 in math. I was astounded as this was the same score his classmates who were taking AP classes in rigorous schools were getting.
Jonathan also scored a 630 on the Math II SAT subject Tests. Jonathan got into UC Davis and UC Santa Cruz as well as 4 other private colleges. He will be attending a UC and had to take a math placement test last week, as his major requires that he take Calculus before Psychological Statistics. Again, we met Ender before he took the test. He took the test the following day, scored a 35, which meant he does not have to take any math class at UC the entire time he attends there, unless he chooses to do so. Thank you Ender, we believe you've helped our son tremendously."

"I have always been relatively shaky when it comes to standardized tests. So, when my first SAT scores confirmed this trend, my parents and I looked into tutoring. We were very lucky to have found Ender. He came over to work on mathematical strategies for the SAT, and assigned homework for the next meeting. We also did practice tests, on Saturdays, in the UCSF library, making it the most realistic to the test as possible. Overall, Ender helped me raise my score by over 100 points.
