She also taught English and History at a private school and has experience working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and more. She not only guarantees better grades and test scores but is also able to connect with a student on an emotional level. She believes that school can be extremely rewarding, but there is often a necessary change in attitude for many students. She is confident in her ability as a teacher, tutor, and mentor to be a catalyst in this process in either a particular subject or in school overall. She also played NCAA Division I basketball while at Yale, and understands the importance of balancing extracurriculars along with academics. She is professional, results driven, positive, caring, and effective. Her greatest asset is watching her students achieving their goals and reaching their highest academic potential.

LAUREN SHUFRAN
VERBAL TUTOR

Bio
Lauren has been tutoring both high school and middle school students for the past three years, and has been consistently impressed by the interests and dedication of her students. She believes a “holistic” approach to tutoring is critical: that each student has diverse (and numerous) needs that need to be met in order to best perform, and that each of those factors should be attended to (including breakfast, early-morning SAT-takers!). Lauren has been highly involved in the literary communities in both San Francisco and Buffalo, the latter in which she edited two magazines, co-founded a press and initiated a number of reading series and writers’ forums. She is currently editor of the “postcard” section of how2 magazine, an online journal dedicated to contemporary women’s writing. When not tutoring, she is also an archivist, a ghostwriter, and she continues to give papers at professional conferences as an independent scholar.
